Are You an Addict? - 5 Signs to Look For

Addiction comes in many forms. There are many things in this world today that be bad habits. It ranges from the most common ones such as alcohol and drug. There are also bad habits such as porn and gambling. Also, there are people who are addicted with coffee, shopping, internet and video games. We don't usually consider such activities and things bad at all but if it becomes an addiction, it can really affect the person. Below are some identifiers to know if you are addicted to something.

Anxiety - If the person is not taking or doing the one he/she is addicted with, the person experiences cravings and anxiety. The person doesn't feel normal and he/she believes that he/she needs to intake or do the object of addiction. The person is irritable and sometimes feels helplessness especially if the addiction is from drugs.
Unhealthy Habits - A person who is addicted to something usually neglects good eating and sleeping habit. This is especially true with computer, video games, and internet addiction. But other kinds of addiction are not exempt with this sign. Weight loss is very much common but weight gain is also true in the case of eating addiction.
Behavior Alterations - Unpredictable behaviors are rampant when a person is addicted (happy, sad, excited, anxious, violent, etc). Usually, a person who is addicted to alcohol is secretive in the amount of alcohol he/she drinks. Secrecy is also a behavior of a person addicted in computer and video games. Lying is common and unexplained disappearance is frequent. In the beginning of the addiction, it seems that there is nothing wrong with the person but the change of behavior will eventually become obvious as the addiction deepens.
Damaging Money Management - In order to support an addiction, money is usually involved. Because of this, the person typically drains his/her savings and will be involved in serious debt. If the person is a teenager, it is highly possible that he/she will steal from his parents to support his/her addiction.
Neglect of Relationships - An addiction demands big chunk of time especially in internet and computer addiction. This will eventually leads to neglect of relationships. In the case of drug addiction, fights with spouses, family members, boss or friends are highly possible. When this happens, it is likely that the addicted person's relationship will suffer.

Addiction can definitely destroy a person and eventually lives. If a person is addicted to something, he/she needs help. It is rare for an addicted person to recover by his/her own. He/she needs support and if you are a relative or a parent to that person, your concern can really help. Some people are saying that the person's will to change can greatly help. However, I believe that the addicted person needs someone to boost the person's will. In this, I also believe that a good program for addiction recovery is very useful.
